Entamoeba histolytica trophozoite - 12 - 26 microns (av 15 - 20 microns), 1 nucleus with fine peripheral chromatin granules and a small compact usually centrally located Karyosome, finely granular ground-glass cytoplasm. Also 2 Endolimax nana trophozites - 6 - 12 microns (av 8 - 10 microns), 1 nucleus with no peripheral chromatin and a large irregularly shaped karyosome and granular vacuolated cytoplasm. This is an iron haematoxylin stained faecal smear.
